* Cisco Systems Inc. said it completed a $6.9-billion acquisition of Scientific-Atlanta Inc.

* Sempra Energy, owner of Southern California Gas and San Diego Gas & Electric, said it planned to gauge whether there’s enough demand from fuel marketers to justify expanding the natural-gas import terminal it is building on Mexico’s Pacific coast. As part of the so-called open season, Sempra will ask for indications of demand from firms that would sell imported natural gas to U.S. utilities and other customers.

* Irvine-based Standard Pacific Homes said new-home orders for the first eight weeks of the year fell 13.4% to 1,452 properties compared with the same period in 2005. The company characterized the decline in demand in some markets as a slowing of “the unsustainable pace of the past few years.”
