Deputy Convicted in Sexual Assaults

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was convicted Monday of sexually assaulting three women while on duty in 2002 and 2003.
Gabriel Gonzalez, 38, faces up to life in prison after he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by a federal jury, Assistant U.S. Atty. Caroline Wittcoff said. He is scheduled to be sentenced in May.
Gonzalez, who was suspended in 2004, stopped the three women on suspicion of traffic and jaywalking violations before raping or assaulting them in isolated areas, Wittcoff said.
