* Big play: After Texas had held USC to three plays on its first possession, Trojan safety Scott Ware forced a fumble on the punt to the Longhorns’ Aaron Ross. USC recovered at the Texas 46-yard line and scored five plays later on LenDale White’s four-yard touchdown run.

* Key statistic: The Longhorns lost one of two fumbles and failed to convert either of their third-down opportunities.

* Also: Each team failed to convert a fourth-and-one opportunity, the Longhorns falling short when running back Selvin Young was driven backward and the Trojans failing when Matt Leinart came up short on a sneak.

* Big plays: Reggie Bush botched a lateral attempt after taking a short pass from Leinart and turning it into a 37-yard gain. Texas recovered at its 19-yard line and drove for its first score, a 46-yard field goal by David Pino. Then Vince Young completed a controversial lateral to Selvin Young, who carried the ball the final 12 yards into the end zone, the touchdown that gave the Longhorns the lead.

* Also: USC couldn’t get the play off fast enough after officials ruled that Texas safety Michael Griffin had stepped out of bounds while catching a Leinart pass intended for Steve Smith in the end zone. Officials reviewed the play and credited Griffin with an interception and a touchback.

* Analysis: Texas seized the momentum by capitalizing on a pair of Trojan turnovers, and USC’s 34-game winning streak suddenly stood on shaky ground after Ramonce Taylor’s 30-yard touchdown run gave the Longhorns a 16-7 lead.
