Britain Closes Embassy, Warns of Possible Attack

From Times Wire Reports

Britain closed its embassy in Jordan until further notice because of fears of attacks on Westerners, but Jordanian authorities said the closure was unnecessary.

“Terrorists may be in the final stages of planning attacks against Westerners and places frequented by Westerners,” the British Foreign Office website said. Two months ago, suicide bomb attacks on hotels in Amman killed more than 50 people.

Jordanian government spokesman Nasser Joudeh said that the closure was unwarranted and that authorities had taken extra security measures to protect the embassy compound.
