Computer-generated imaging expert Gary Demos will receive an honorary Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Demos, who produced CGI scenes for the sci-fi film “Tron” and in 1988 founded computer and visual effects consulting company DemoGraFX, since sold to Dolby, is the 19th recipient of the Gordon E. Sawyer Award. It is given to an individual “whose technological contributions have brought credit to the industry.”

Demos’ Oscar will be presented to him at the academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner on Feb. 18.
