Teen to Be Tried as Adult in Blast Case, Judge Says
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A judge ruled Monday that a teenager can be tried as an adult on charges involving exploding pens that injured three people last year.
Brian Rocha of El Monte was 17 when he was arrested and charged with nine felonies for the blasts, which authorities allege were done as revenge for his being expelled from Rosemead High School.
Authorities said Rocha booby-trapped pens to detonate when uncapped.
The victims found them on the ground in or near Rosemead and El Monte high schools.
