Governor Seeks Disaster Declaration After Fires
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger asked the U.S. Small Business Administration to declare fire-ravaged San Bernardino County a disaster area, officials said Friday.
Schwarzenegger made the request for federal loans Thursday after two visits to the desert communities near Yucca Valley where recent wildfires destroyed more than 200 structures.
The governor declared a state of emergency for the county July 13. Schwarzenegger’s appeal to the federal agency said damage in the region met Small Business Administration loan criteria of at least 25 homes or businesses having uninsured losses of at least 40% of their value.
