The Defense Department last week also identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan or Iraq, or who died at a military hospital of their injuries:

Nathaniel S. Baughman, 23, of Monticello, Ind.; corporal, Army. Baughman was killed Monday when his Humvee was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades in Bayji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Eric Caban, 28, of Fort Worth; staff sergeant, Army. Caban died Wednesday of injuries suffered a day earlier when his combat reconnaissance patrol was attacked with small-arms fire in southern Afghanistan. The Green Beret was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Geofrey R. Cayer, 20, of Fitchburg, Mass.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Cayer was killed Tuesday in a nonhostile incident in Habbaniya, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Robert J. Chiomento, 34, of Fort Dix, N.J.; staff sergeant, Army. Chiomento was killed Monday when his patrol unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and mortars in the southern Afghanistan town of Khwaya Ahmad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Polk, La.

Andres J. Contreras, 23, of Huntington Park; sergeant, Army. Contreras was killed July 15 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 519th Military Police Battalion, 1st Combat Support Brigade at Ft. Polk, La.

Michael A. Dickinson II, 26, of Battle Creek, Mich.; staff sergeant, Army. Dickinson was killed Monday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 9th Psychological Operations Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group, Army Special Operations Command at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Jason M. Evey, 29, of Stockton; staff sergeant, Army. Evey was killed July 16 when his Bradley fighting vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Alkaila T. Floyd, 23, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sergeant, Army. Floyd died July 13 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered July 8 when a roadside bomb exploded near his mineprotected vehicle in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade in Bamberg, Germany.

Robert P. Kassin, 29, of Las Vegas; sergeant, Army. Kassin was killed July 16 when his platoon was attacked with small-arms fire at Larzab Base in southern Afghanistan’s Zabul province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Polk, La.

Derek J. Plowman, 20, of Everton, Ark.; private first class, Army National Guard. Plowman died of a gunshot wound Thursday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 142nd Fires Brigade, Army National Guard in Rogers, Ark.

Kenneth I. Pugh, 39, of Houston; corporal, Army. Pugh was killed Monday when his Abrams tank was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Julian A. Ramon, 22, of Flushing, N.Y.; corporal, Marine Corps. Ramon was killed Thursday in an explosion in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Scott R. Smith, 34, of Punxsutawney, Pa.; sergeant first class, Army. Smith was killed Monday while trying to defuse an explosive device in Iskandariya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 737th Explosive Ordnance Detachment, 52nd Ordnance Group at Ft. Belvoir, Va.

Thomas B. Turner Jr., 31, of Cottonwood, Calif.; sergeant, Army. Turner died July 14 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered July 13 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Bradley fighting vehicle in Muqdadiya, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Mark R. Vecchione, 25, of Tucson; sergeant, Army. Vecchione was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Abrams tank in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Division in Friedberg, Germany.

Matthew P. Wallace, 22, of Lexington Park, Md.; corporal, Army. Wallace died Friday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered July 16 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Bradley fighting vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
