D.A. in Duke Lacrosse Case Says He Erred
The district attorney prosecuting three Duke lacrosse players charged with rape acknowledged that he erred by openly discussing the investigation, but he urged voters not to judge him by the one case.
“My handling of the media coverage of this case has occasioned substantial criticism, some of which is undoubtedly justified,” District Attorney Mike Nifong said in Durham.
Nifong won the Democratic primary and has no GOP challenger. But a petition drive added to the ballot another Democrat, Durham lawyer Lewis Cheek, who is critical of Nifong’s handling of the case.
