The Longoria way

FINALLY an article [“A Post-NAFTA Star,” May 28] about a Mexican American (Latinos, whatever you want to call us) entertainer who, like so many of us, was raised in the U.S. of immigrant parents and lives and thrives in this culture that often wants us to choose between the two sides of the border for our identity.

Eva Longoria is to be celebrated for how she has conquered the stereotypes thrown at us from both sides. We have read many other articles by the alleged “representatives” of the Mexican American culture, none that has captured quite like Reed Johnson the experience of many of us born and raised here and proud to raise the American flag on Memorial Day weekend without any confusion about who we are or where we came from and trying in our own way to make this a better country.
