Rebels to Begin Disarming Today

Rebels involved in a months-long conflict with the government planned to begin handing over weapons to a multinational peacekeeping force, their commander told reporters.
Lt. Cmdr. Alfredo Reinado, who leads a rebel group that includes soldiers dismissed from East Timor’s army this year, said they would begin disarming today.
It was unclear how many weapons, and of what type, the forces have after fleeing the capital, Dili, in May, amid clashes with loyalist forces.
