At least 40 militants were killed during combat operations in support of a massive anti-Taliban campaign across southern Afghanistan, officials said.

The insurgents were killed during a two-day push that included airstrikes in a remote part of the southeastern province of Paktika, near the border with Pakistan, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick said.

In Asadabad district in Kunar province, two coalition soldiers were killed in a roadside bombing while on a security sweep through the area, coalition officials said today. The military did not disclose the nationalities of the soldiers.
