Jakks Pacific Inc. said it won the exclusive right to develop Pokemon toys in North America.
Financial details of the agreement with Pokemon Co., a Nintendo Co. affiliate, weren’t disclosed.
The first action figures, stuffed animals, TV games and pool toys based on the Japanese creatures will debut in January, Malibu-based Jakks said.
Jakks, which has more than doubled its annual revenue and net income since 2001, is moving into a market that was controlled by Hasbro Inc., the world’s No. 2 toy maker. Hasbro holds Pokemon’s North American toy rights through this year.
