Philbin’s ‘Talent’ dips in ratings

After its two-hour premiere last week became summer’s highest-rated entertainment program, TV observers wondered if NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” with Regis Philbin might turn out to be this season’s reality breakthrough.

Well ... probably not.

Week 2 of “Talent” did OK in the ratings Wednesday night, but it didn’t build in a way that signals viewer excitement. In the 9 p.m. slot, the talent competition’s audience was down 8% from last week’s debut and about double that among the key demographic of 18- to 49-year-olds.
