Police on Thursday found a human head in a plastic bag outside the main entrance to City Hall in this Pacific resort, a day after authorities found a decapitated body.

Police investigator Guillermo Rios Ramirez said a note was attached to the bag.

It read, “Lazcano, so that you keep sending me more idiots from GAFE.”

GAFE is the Spanish acronym for the special forces unit of the Mexican army that investigates drug trafficking. Lazcano is a surname and police were trying to determine whom the note was intended for.

The head was the fourth found this year in Acapulco, where drug gangs have been battling police.

The note was signed with the letter Z, which authorities said was an attempt to link the killing to the Zetas, a group of former elite Mexican soldiers who work for the Gulf drug cartel.

Authorities were investigating whether the head was from the decapitated body found Wednesday, which had the letter Z carved into its chest. The feet and hands were bound, and the body appeared to have been dragged by a car down one of the city’s main avenues.

The body was found outside the home of a city employee, who is a close ally of Mayor Felix Salgado.

Five people were injured in April when assailants launched a grenade near the municipal worker’s home.

Salgado called the placement of the head “an act of provocation” aimed at forcing him out of the office he has held for eight months.

“But here I am. Here I’m going to stay,” he said.
