Whitewash at school

Re “Murals Get Brushoff at Garfield,” Feb. 27

When the painters with whitewash arrived at Garfield High, the principal should have put herself in front of the murals that are the artistic and cultural heritage of the school and ordered the workers out. Her failure to prevent the destruction of a treasure unique to her school community mirrors the dysfunction and confusion that characterizes the Los Angeles Unified School District. It’s time to break it up and start over.
