Police are on Oscar’s case

Share

It’s Oscar week, which means Angelenos will be seeing a lot of street closures in the Hollywood area, more police presence than normal and maybe even a sniffing dog or two.

But don’t be alarmed, says Paul Vernon, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

“We have received no credible threats against the Oscars,” Vernon said. “We’re just following the same plan as before. We’ve never had a major problem to contend with, but we’ll be prepared for anything that arises.”

Massive security lockdowns have always been a part of one of the city’s largest events, but measures intensified after Sept. 11, since the Academy Awards are a symbol of Western culture. The show will be held Sunday at the Kodak Theatre.
