Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount Are Winners

Daphanie Kennedy scored 17 points and Jasmane Clarendon added 15 to lead Pepperdine to a 70-58 victory over St. Mary’s on Thursday at Spokane, Wash.

The Waves (12-16) won a first-round West Coast Conference tournament game for the fifth season in a row.

“For a young team it is a great confidence builder and I was pleased with our performance and it feels great to be moving on,” Wave Coach Julie Rousseau said.

Maija Lahde and Monica Mertle each scored 16 points for St. Mary’s.

Loyola Marymount 61, San Diego 56 -- Ashlee Dunlap scored 19 points and the Lions never trailed in defeating the Toreros (9-19).

Loyola Marymount (17-11) will play Pepperdine in the semifinals.

Santa Clara 83, Portland 77 -- Michelle Cozad scored 25 points and the top-seeded Broncos held off the Pilots (4-24).

Chandice Cronk added 21 points for Santa Clara (18-10). Rachael Warren had 23 points for Portland.

San Francisco 75, Gonzaga 67 -- The Dons built a nine-point halftime lead and surprised the host Bulldogs.

San Francisco (9-19) took a 34-25 lead into the break, then traded baskets with Gonzaga (16-14) in the second half to score the upset.
