Braves’ Cox Signs Extension
Bobby Cox signed a one-year extension of his contract Sunday, keeping him as manager of the Atlanta Braves through 2007.
Cox, 64, is seventh on the all-time list with 2,092 victories, has guided the Braves to 14 division titles in a row and won the last two National League manager-of-the-year awards. He’s going into his 25th year as a major league manager.

Outfielder Chris Duffy of the Pittsburgh Pirates said criticism from pitcher Curt Schilling after being hit in the head by the Boston ace is unwarranted.
Duffy sat out Sunday’s exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays because of a mild concussion suffered Saturday when he was hit by a pitch. Schilling said Duffy should have been able to avoid the fastball.
Duffy said he couldn’t be sure there was any possibility he could have avoided the pitch until he watched a television replay.
Schilling thought Duffy leaned into the pitch. Duffy, though, said he shouldn’t be faulted for that approach.
The Pirates haven’t said when Duffy will return to the lineup.
