The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Kevin D. Akins, 29, of Burnsville, N.C.; sergeant, Army Reserve. Akins was among four reservists killed March 12 when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored Humvee in eastern Afghanistan. The troops were on patrol in Kunar province’s Pech Valley, west of Asadabad. Akins was assigned to the 391st Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve in Asheville, N.C.

Nicholas R. Anderson, 21, of Sauk City, Wis.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Anderson died of head injuries Monday when his Humvee overturned while pursuing a suspicious vehicle near Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Corey A. Dan, 22, of Norway, Maine; sergeant, Army. Dan was one of two soldiers killed Monday when they were attacked with small-arms fire after a roadside bomb exploded during combat in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Kristen K. Figueroa, 20, of Honolulu; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Figueroa was killed March 12 during combat in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Anton J. Hiett, 25, of Mount Airy, N.C.; sergeant, Army Reserve. Hiett was among four reservists killed March 12 when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored Humvee in eastern Afghanistan. The troops were on patrol in Kunar province’s Pech Valley, west of Asadabad. Hiett was assigned to the 391st Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve in Asheville, N.C.

Joshua L. Hill, 24, of Fairmount, Ind.; specialist, Army Reserve. Hill was among four reservists killed March 12 when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored Humvee in eastern Afghanistan. The troops were on patrol in Kunar province’s Pech Valley, west of Asadabad. Hill was assigned to the 391st Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve in Asheville, N.C.

Bryan A. Lewis, 32, of Bunkie, La.; staff sergeant, Army. Lewis was killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee during a convoy near Rustamiya, Iraq, southeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 519th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade at Ft. Polk, La.

Bunny Long, 22, of Modesto; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Long was killed March 10 when a suicide bomber drove a truck filled with explosives into a building he was guarding near Fallouja, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Joseph R. Ray, 29, of Asheville, N.C.; staff sergeant, Army Reserve. Ray was among four reservists killed March 12 by a roadside bomb during a patrol in Kunar province’s Pech Valley, west of Asadabad. Ray was assigned to the 391st Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve in Asheville, N.C.

Marco A. Silva, 27, of Alva, Fla.; staff sergeant, Army. Silva was one of two soldiers killed Monday when they were attacked with small-arms fire after a roadside bomb exploded during combat in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. Angelo A. Zawaydeh, 19, of San Bruno, Calif.; private first class, Army. Zawaydeh was killed Wednesday in a mortar attack on his traffic control point in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
