Fire Official Explains Rise in Injury Claims

An outbreak of staph infections and injuries from wildfires are to blame for a 21% increase this year in firefighters’ claims, a Fire Department official said Wednesday.
Battalion Chief Lou Roupoli, responding to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s concerns about the increase, said 74 firefighters filed injury claims for the staph infection and 22 for injuries from fighting wildfires.
