UnitedHealth Directors Reelected Amid Discord

The shareholders of UnitedHealth Group Inc. overwhelmingly reelected four members of the board of directors despite the opposition of a few large shareholders, including CalPERS, the nation’s largest pension fund.

The vote came amid criticism of the compensation of the board members and Chairman and Chief Executive William McGuire. McGuire and directors James Johnson, Mary Mundinger and Douglas Leatherdale were all reelected at the company’s annual meeting.

McGuire’s compensation from the nation’s second-largest health insurer has been at issue after disclosures that he held $1.6 billion in unexercised stock options at the end of 2005.
