Two Coral Species to Be Listed as Threatened
From Times Wire Reports
Two coral species will be listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act after damage to them increased last year as the Caribbean warmed to record levels, said Jennifer Moore, a natural resource specialist with the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service.
The two species, elkhorn and staghorn coral, are threatened by bleaching caused by high temperatures, disease and physical damage from hurricanes, she said. Corals form reefs that host a variety of marine life.
