Kodak Unit Accused of Illegal Spamming

Eastman Kodak Co.’s online digital photo printing unit sent more than 2 million e-mails to consumers that violated U.S. anti-spam laws, according to a Federal Trade Commission suit filed in San Francisco.

The FTC says the e-mails sent in 2004 violated the U.S. Can-Spam Act, a federal law designed to crack down on the transmission of bulk, unsolicited commercial e-mail messages.

A spokeswoman for Kodak Imaging in Emeryville, Calif., said that the incident was caused by a “simple technical error.”
