Harold Leonard Wrigglesworth, 88, Malaysia’s oldest practicing lawyer, died Friday in a Kuala Lumpur hospital after being attacked in his home, according to the Malaysian Bar Council.

He succumbed to injuries sustained when he was robbed in the northeastern town of Kota Bharu a week ago, the council said.

Wrigglesworth moved to what is now Malaysia from Yorkshire, England, in 1946 to serve as a representative of the British advisor.

Wrigglesworth, who acquired Malaysian citizenship after Malaya achieved independence from Britain in 1957, wrote a book detailing the Japanese occupation of Kelantan in 1941.
