From Times Wire Reports

New York City sued 15 gun retailers in five states, accusing them of violating laws requiring firearms to be sold only to the intended user, not to a “straw” buyer making the purchase for someone else, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, focused on dealers in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, which account for more than half the illegal guns used in crimes in New York City, Bloomberg said.

The suit, based on evidence collected by undercover private investigators with hidden video cameras, is part of a national anti-gun initiative the mayor is pursuing. It asks the court to appoint overseers to ensure that retailers obey the law.
