Benbow Picked to Head Development Agency
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa moved Friday to replace the head of the city’s Community Development Department with a longtime redevelopment official who helped spur economic growth in Watts.
Villaraigosa selected Richard Benbow, a 30-year veteran of the city Community Redevelopment Agency, to succeed Clifford Graves at the helm of the 484-employee development department. Benbow must be confirmed by the City Council.
Graves, who served as general manager of the department for about three years, announced his resignation, effective mid-June. He did not cite a reason and did not return a call seeking comment.
