May 23, 1969: Almost a year after UCLA’s 11-story social science building was constructed and named after Nobel Peace Prize winner Ralph Bunche, he returned to his alma mater for the formal dedication.

The Times noted the U.N. undersecretary’s distinguished academic career: “Dr. Bunche, a summa cum laude graduate of the Class of 1927, was a UCLA basketball star in the mid-1920s, sports editor of the student yearbook and a staff member of the California Daily Bruin.”
