ONCE again, Mark Swed’s vast knowledge of both New York and Los Angeles brings to the surface the artist’s importance in the music world and vice versa [“Performing Rauschenberg,” May 21]. It takes Swed’s bicoastal cultural spectrum to give us insight into Rauschenberg’s importance for both music and art in the cultural arena.

Thanks to Swed’s insight, we have more perspective in the importance of Paul Schimmel’s landmark exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
