Police captured a parolee Saturday morning who had shot at one police officer and eluded dozens more the day before, said Police Lt. Fred Wiste.

Todd Fredrick Irvine, 41, who was arrested on suspicion of auto theft and attempted assault with a deadly weapon, was being held in Orange County Jail. Irvine was also wanted for parole violations, though details were unavailable, Wiste said.

On Friday, police said, officers attempted to pull Irvine over but he drove to La Habra Heights, where he abandoned his vehicle and ran into a wooded area near a golf course. He allegedly shot at an officer but didn’t harm him. About 50 officers from Orange and Los Angeles counties unsuccessfully combed the area.
