Council OKs fare increases for taxis
From Times staff and wire reports
The City Council approved taxi fares Tuesday that will raise the cost of rides in the city.
The minimum fare rises to $2.45 from $2.20, the per-mile charge to $2.45 from $2.20, the waiting fee to 35 cents per 47.5 seconds from 20 cents and the flat charge between Los Angeles International Airport and downtown to $42 from $38. The city also imposed a new minimum fare of $15 for rides starting at LAX. Drivers said that will protect them from having to provide rides between terminals at little profit.
