A tip to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Friday morning led to the capture of an inmate who had escaped the day before from the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic.
Felix Stiglbauer, 24, walked away from an outdoor work detail at the detention center’s North Facility shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday.
Stiglbauer was found shoeless and dehydrated about 7:45 a.m. Friday, walking on rural Lake Hughes Road, about three miles north of Ridge Route Road. He had traveled less than four miles from the jail, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Patterson.
Still wearing his bright yellow jail uniform, Stiglbauer was taken to the inmate reception center in downtown Los Angeles for processing. “He’ll be booked on a new charge of escape,” Patterson said.
Jail personnel learned of Stiglbauer’s escape when an electronic monitoring device on his ankle was activated. The facility was locked down, and area residents were advised to lock their doors and windows.
Stiglbauer was arrested March 22 by California Highway Patrol officers on suspicion of evading an officer and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, authorities said.
