Trojan women upset, 67-63

South Dakota State forced 25 turnovers and upset No. 19 USC, 67-63, Friday night at Brookings, S.D.

The Jackrabbits (2-0) were supposed to be a convenient stop for the Trojans on their way to Sunday’s matchup with No. 6 Ohio State.

Megan Vogel scores 22 points as the Jackrabbits posted their first win over a ranked team in three tries since moving to NCAA Division I. In all, they are 27-16 against Division I opponents since moving up at the start of the 2004-05 season.

Eshaya Murphy had 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Trojans. Chloe Kerr had 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Jackrabbits took advantage of USC’s foul troubles. Three Trojans fouled out and four others finished with four fouls.

They went 36 for 47 from the free-throw line -- including Vogel’s 15 for 18 -- to overcome 26% shooting.

The Trojans (1-1), who beat South Dakota State, 66-59, in the their only previous meeting, were 19 for 23 from the free-throw line.

UC Santa Barbara 79, Nevada Las Vegas 76 -- Chris Devine had a game-high 25 points for the visiting Gauchos men, who are 3-0 for the first time since 1994.

The Rebels (2-1) trailed by 13 points with nine minutes to play, but held the Gauchos without a basket for the final 5:50 and pulled within one, 73-72, with 1:12 left.

Loyola Marymount 71, New Mexico State 69 -- Brandon Worthy made an off-balance, three-point basket with 0.9 of a second left to give the host Lions (1-1) the victory. The Lions rallied from a 17-point deficit.

Oregon 85, UC Irvine 42 -- The Anteaters (2-3) were held to 13 second-half points at Eugene, Ore. Chamberlain Oguchi scored 25 points and had six three-point baskets to lead the Ducks (4-0).

Long Beach State 73, Cal State Bakersfield 70 -- Kejuan Johnson made one of two free throws to give the 49ers (2-1) a 71-67 lead with 12 seconds left. Carl Damus scored a game-high 24 points for the visiting Roadrunners (0-2).
