A uniter, not a divider
I watched “Borat” on opening night in a packed movie theater [“Borat, a Truth Serum in Our Midst,” Oct. 15]. The majority of the audience was comprised of minorities, mostly Asians and Armenians.
The audience was so in tune with the movie that everyone responded cohesively to each scene, almost on cue, as if we were a part of the movie’s soundtrack. The reaction was also cohesive in the scene in which college students made racial remarks. The audience abruptly became quiet -- so quiet, all you could hear was the hum of the movie projector.
For my part, I thought about the comment made by one of the students, that “minorities have power.” In silence, I pondered that comment.
Thank you, Sacha Baron Cohen, for providing us with a movie whose content shouldn’t be taken seriously. Yet, we do.
