IF you want to know what it’s like to walk a mile in Marie Antoinette’s shoes, you have two choices.

You can stroll around in a high-priced pair of Manolo Blahnik reproductions of 18th century French court footwear, made for Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette” and available in the designer’s European boutiques.

Or you can hop into a pair of all-American pink Converse Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers.

Amusingly, pink Chuckies can be spotted in the film tucked among Marie’s formal footwear during a long pan of the teen queen’s closet. It’s not a blooper. Coppola has said her brother, Roman Coppola, the assistant director on her second unit, tossed them into that shot as an inside joke.

Seems Io Bottoms, who plays one of the ladies-in-waiting, bought the pink Chuckies in Paris for Kirsten Dunst to wear during rehearsals and down time on the set. Dunst was also reportedly seen wearing the tennies around Hollywood. In fact, the pink shoes were glimpsed before the film was even released; in an early W magazine photo spread shot on the film’s set Dunst wears the sneaks with her fancy French gowns.

“They cost about 80 euros,” Bottoms says. “They were a gift for Kirsten.” But you can buy a pair at department stores, boutiques or on Zappos.com for $42.

The modern pink sport shoes worked with the movie’s modern punk mood and the pink frosting color scheme: pink champagne, pink wigs and pink pastries.

Long live the pink Chuckies!
