Coeds here pay top rent

California universities lead the list of high-rent student-housing markets, according to a National Multi Housing Council study of 64 college towns.
Stanford University and San Jose State University posted the highest rents for six of the eight unit types studied during the college calendar years of 2004 to 2006. UC Irvine topped the high-rent list for five unit types. Among types of rental units included in the story were: studio, one-bedroom and one-bathroom, three-bedroom and two-bathroom. Units with three or more bedrooms posted the highest median growth rates year over year, from 9% to 13%.
