More on Domestic Adoption

It’s unfortunate that the Court family was soundly reprimanded in your Sept. 10 Letters section for their unfortunate adoption experience (“Beware the Baby Profiteers,” by Jamie Court, Aug. 20). My husband and I also went through Vista Del Mar, and facilitators were recommended on an equal standing with adoption attorneys.

The real point is not to tout the benefits of using an attorney but to reveal the dire need for regulation of facilitators so that the “bad actors” are caught, just as unethical attorneys are caught. We were defrauded by a facilitator who then sued us for slander when we spoke out about our experience. She moved to another state and is operating today.

The Court family should be applauded for going public with a very personal matter and contributing to the effort to regulate the adoption business. By the way, we ended up successfully adopting through an honest professional who happens to be a facilitator.
