Ford Motor Co. has put its extended warranty business, Automobile Protection Corp., up for sale as part of its effort to become leaner.

Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford bought the business, which mainly sells warranty service contracts that continue beyond manufacturers’ warranties, for $180 million in 1999.

Ford would not disclose the Atlanta-based business’ earnings but said it had grown in sales and revenue since it was acquired.
