Actor as camera buff

Share

I just finished reading Susan King’s article on the Harold Lloyd exhibit [“The Filmmaking Life of Harold Lloyd, in Stills,” Oct. 8]. This photo was taken in 1958 at Paradise Cove, on a field trip while I was taking photographic courses at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. Our instructor, Kenneth McCombs, a friend of Mr. Lloyd, invited him to accompany us on this trip. Mr. Lloyd was an avid photographer and especially enjoyed our field trips when we provided attractive young models to photograph, even though the models wore the swimsuits of the day. He is using his Stereo Realist camera, which has two lenses that produce two overlapping images on 35-mm color film. When projected and special glasses are used, it will give you a three-dimensional image. I remember him as a very nice man to talk with and he was very knowledgeable about photography.

He was also a fashion trendsetter, wearing his baseball cap with the bill facing the back, as shown in this photograph.
