The money trail
Re “Misuse of Bond Funds Alleged,” Oct. 10
I was shocked to learn that a 2004 state audit determined that the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy had mismanaged $115 million in bond money and that today it seems to be playing some sort of shell game with taxpayer dollars. Your article raises disturbing questions about an organization I had long admired but now feel betrayed by. Where is the oversight, and who will hold the conservancy accountable? Who at the conservancy (and at the other nonprofits with which it partners) stands to gain from the inappropriate spending you describe? I hope The Times will dig deeper and let us know what’s really going on here.
