One of two troopers ambushed while searching for an escaped convict died of his injuries, and police vowed to capture the man they believe killed him.
Joseph Longobardo, 32, shot while on a stakeout for Ralph “Bucky” Phillips, died at a Buffalo hospital with his wife and parents at his side, police said. The other trooper, Donald Baker Jr., 38, remained in critical condition.
Phillips, who has been on the run for five months, is the target of one of the largest manhunts in New York history.
