Daddy’s gotta go now

Hate having to start this column with an RIP, but Daddy’s bar is the latest to bite the dust. And everyone loved Daddy’s. It was one of the few spots in Hollywood you could crash any night of the week, and they met you with open arms. And owner Craig Trager says he didn’t want Daddy’s to go out like that. He says those two words, “eminent domain,” sealed its fate, and now folks can say bye-bye to Daddy’s and hello to the retail shops and apartments now slated at the Vine Street location. Daddy’s was the last old-school bar from the Vine Street days of the Brown Derby. “Sad would not even describe the emotion of having your bar stripped from you by the city as you stand there helpless,” Trager says. “So many people have called me to tell me of all the great times they have had at Daddy’s, all the new friendships made there, and yes, some people met, got married and had kids.” The easygoing lounge was a favorite of Vince Vaughn, Jack Black and Matt Damon. Trager and his partners, who were scheduled to celebrate Daddy’s final hour Wednesday, are looking for a new home for it, and they invite their regular customers to join them down the street at the Well -- another chill Hollywood bar they own ... for now.

Rock and vamp

Rockers alert: The ‘80s rock hang Scream returns from the dead this Saturday at the Viper Room in WeHo. Along with plenty of glamorous rockers, clubbers can catch a fashion show by rock designer Marc Vachon.... Last chance to hop a train to the high desert for Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven’s annual camp-out this weekend in Pioneertown.... After a really bad breakup that sent him into a gloomy tailspin, actor-DJ Sean Sweeney, a.k.a. DJ Sweeney Flytrap, was scheduled to debut “The New Sean” Wednesday night at the Bar (at Sunset Boulevard and Bronson Avenue). A happier, go-luckier Sweeney says he plans to spin “tunes with positivity.”

Feel that Brit vibe

Club NME was scheduled to make its stateside debut Wednesday night at Spaceland in Silver Lake. Sassy Australian band the Grates were due to inaugurate the British music magazine-sponsored night, with guest DJs including Tim Burgess (Charlatans UK), Har Mar Superstar and Fab Moretti (the Strokes).... Don’t know about you, but we can’t seem to pass up free these days, and if you’re in the Valley near the Sportsmen’s Lodge, you might want to drop in. There’s never a cover, and we stopped by to check out singer-guitarist David Shepherd Grossman, who’s doing a Tuesday night residency. He specializes in feel-good hits of the ‘70s.
