‘Early endorsements’ one of club’s benefits

Re “GOP Endorsements in O.C. Exact a Price,” Sept. 5

The Local Elected Officials Assn., an organization of which I am a member, is an activist arm of the Republican Party of Orange County. It is composed of councilmen, school board members and other local candidates. As part of the club’s dues, members are entitled to complimentary admission to Republican events throughout the county. Suggesting that it was a “shakedown” for money is absurd. Money for food, room rentals and mailings does not appear out of thin air. Our dues pay for tangible items from which we, the members, benefit. The eligibility for an “early endorsement” is just another benefit when you consider everything else you get when joining the club.
