That’s Mrs. Ziggy Stardust

Saturday is Wife Appreciation Day. This is a joke, or an invention of the florists and the greeting card industrial complex. Or an excuse to admire David Bowie, at right. His album “Low,” which included the stellar “Be My Wife,” was released when he was a lad of 30; in January, he’ll be 60. Time has treated his music well, and hasn’t slowed the musician-lyricist-actor down: His next movie, due this fall, is “The Prestige,” with Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine. If you have a female spouse, don’t buy her roses or candy, since this is something you already do every day. Instead treat her to a bit of Bowie: “Please be mine/Share my life/Stay with me/Be my wife.”
