Juan Pablo Garcia’s goal in the 13th minute Wednesday night lifted Chivas USA to a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas.

FC Dallas (14-9-4) missed a chance to be the first Western Conference team to clinch a playoff spot.

Chivas (9-7-11) played the last 14 minutes a man down after Jesus Morales received his second yellow card in the 76th minute. He was whistled for a reckless foul on FC Dallas’ Bobby Rhine.

Morales entered as a substitute in the 46th minute for Chivas USA captain Juan Francisco Palencia, who left after halftime because of a right knee sprain.

Palencia watched the second half from the Chivas bench, sporting an ice pack on his right knee and crutches, and will be evaluated today.

Chivas goalie Brad Guzan made a diving two-handed save to his left to deflect a header in the 89th minute.

Guzan finished with three saves for his third shutout of the year.
