An odd kind of hate

Re “Academic Bill of Rights? Oh, wise up,” Opinion, Sept. 15

David Horowitz is quoted in Rosa Brooks’ article with a common theme among conservatives: Those who disagree with his ilk “hate America.”

Those of us who “hate America” defend and believe in our proud system of checks and balances, taxation equality and freedom of religion. We like the way this country -- imperfect as it may be -- has been since it was founded. We even like the freedom we have to be imperfect.

The reason we don’t support the soldiers in Iraq is because we value their lives and don’t want them to die in a political war.
