According to Doreen

Sometimes it’s really refreshing to see the scene through someone else’s eyes. Especially a German uber-vixen with Latina blood. She goes by the name Doreen and has been living in Venice on and off from Germany and here’s her report: She’s mad about Whitestarr, Cisco Adler’s band, which she caught at the Roxy because a Rainbow security guard was smitten with her and escorted her inside. For a visual, picture Sally from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” but without the stitching. A different security guard hooked her up with a parting gift: a Whitestarr special edition Ed Hardy T-shirt.

The fraulein also became buddies with Beardo, the band’s bass player, who gave her a copy of his solo project (titled “Beardo”). She also hit the Roxy’s Alice in Chains show and says she enjoyed cool close-ups of Billy Corgan and Courtney Love.... Doreen also reports that the Rainbow Bar & Grill is still the most happening place on the Strip, with rock stars walking in and out faster than they can sling Jack and Cokes. She scored one more parting gift: the bunny ears New York singer Adam Green wore during last week’s Troubadour acoustic set. The music lover says that if you want to hip her to cool stuff before she heads back to the land of sausages in October, you can reach her through www.blackbarbie666.com.

Two beach parties

Tim Armstrong fans were excited to see him turn out Friday for the AFI/ Tiger Army doubleheader, which took place at the Long Beach Arena.... We hear Les Deux Cafe’s new sweet spot is Sunday afternoons. The Hollywood club parties down with “La Plage,” which means “the beach” in French. The music is Latin and Euro-lounge, the style is shorts and flip-flops and they bring in Foosball, pingpong and checkers.

Secret to socializing

Seen on the scene: Orlando Bloom and Leonardo DiCaprio, who are regulars at Social Hollywood. The new nightclub has one of L.A.’s best-kept secrets: its bar. Anyone can drop in.... It was 25 years in the making, but we caught the debut set of Raccoon in Pioneertown, at Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker’s annual weekend barbecue two weeks ago. Raccoon is a cow-dub band composed of Lone Justice founding members Ryan Hedgecock and Marvin Etzioni. They had Pappy & Harriet’s bar in Pioneertown jumping. Lured in to the nearby Red Dog Saloon by the sounds of an old school crooner named Sherman who was singing Elvis, Hank and Willie, we met up with Red Dog owner Carol Post who organized Pioneertown’s 60th birthday celebration Sept. 1. Post tells us that along with 50 homes, 100,000 Joshua trees perished in the recent fires. Her saloon was spared by a shift in the wind.... Speaking of the Joshua Tree area, save the dates: Oct. 21 and 22 mark the first annual Joshua Tree Roots Festival. All the dough goes to fire relief. That’s hot.
