Update -- The Galaxy will try to win the Open Cup for the third time, having won in 2001 and 2005. A victory would make Los Angeles the first back-to-back champion since the New York Pancyprian-Freedom won the Cup in 1982 and 1983. The Fire already is a three-time winner, with victories in 1998, 2000 and 2003, and can become only the fifth team in the 92-year history of the annual knockout tournament to win it four times. Chicago will be without midfielder Chris Armas, who is suspended after being red-carded in the semifinals. In two Major League Soccer games this season, the teams tied, 1-1, at the Home Depot Center in April and the Fire won, 2-1, at home Saturday to clinch an MLS playoff berth. The Galaxy returns to Los Angeles on Thursday to prepare for Saturday night’s match against Chivas USA, when a loss would eliminate the defending league champion from playoff contention.
