2 Mexican Officers Arrested Over Tunnel
Two Mexican customs officers have been arrested in connection with the construction of a partially completed cross-border tunnel near the San Ysidro port of entry, according to Mexican authorities.
The 70-foot tunnel, which began in an empty lot owned by the Mexican federal customs agency, was discovered Tuesday after a joint investigation by U.S. and Mexican authorities.
The officials are being investigated for possibly providing protection for three men suspected of building the tunnel. It was the fifth underground passage found in the last two years in the area.
