Flying right past a key developer

Regarding “Where the Road Meets the Runway,” March 25: The article failed to mention Fritz Burns, who was a big developer of homes in Westchester. My house in Westchester was built by him in 1950.

The Historical Society of Southern California published an excellent book about Burns in 2001, “Fritz B. Burns and the Development of Los Angeles” by James Thomas Keane. I knew nothing about Burns until I read this book.

My wife and I were uprooted by the LAX expansion in 1971. By 1971, the aircraft noise was so loud that you had to wait until the planes took off to finish your conversation.

We were fortunate in that our home on West 92nd Street was the first street north of La Tijera and in the demolition zone. I feel sorry for the people one street over who were not bought out and had to live with the noise.

The airport was more than generous in buying us out and paid us $40,000, which was more than enough to relocate us to Fountain Valley to a $36,500, five-bedroom, 2 1/2 -bathroom home 4 miles from the beach.

We find it interesting that our five-bedroom house is still priced about the same as the two-bedroom homes in Westchester.
